REVISED: Turkey Bacon

Date: May 2012

**TASTE TEST NOT INCLUDED**
PRICE AND NUTRITION COMPARISON ONLY
All products for this comparison purchased at Albertsons, Trader Joes, Costco, QFC, and Whole Foods.

TASTE WINNER: None this time! Read the explanation below....

MICHELE'S OPINION: Ok, so this test didn't turn out like I wanted it to.  I bought all of the turkey bacon, took all of the pictures, recorded all of the price and nutritional info, but couldn't find the right time or method to actually cook all of the bacon to do the test. It took me so long to figure out how to get it done that now most of the bacon is past it's 'sell by' date.

I wanted to cook it on the stove top, which is the recommended method for most of these brands, but that takes lots of skillets and lots of time, and then the first brand of bacon is cold by the time I'd be prepped to taste them all.  So, for this test I'm providing the price and nutritional details and I hope that is still helpful for you.  Here you go:

Non-Fat Strawberry Yogurt

Test Date: April 2012

Tester: Michele

All products purchased at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, QFC (Kroger banner), and Albertsons.

TASTE WINNER: I guess, if you put a gun to my head and make me choose a favorite, it would be Trader Joe's French Village.  But it got only two stars, if that gives you any indication of how the rest of them tasted.....

MICHELE'S OPINION: First of all let me try again to get this horrible aftertaste out of my mouth. Blech!! Second, let me scold all of you out there who eat fat free yogurt.  You're not really getting any nutrition from it, you're basically eating chemicals.  Third, let me warn those of you who haven't bought it to NEVER BUY IT. This was one of the worst taste tests I've had to do, third in line to probably vegetable oils (which I tasted with a spoon) and sausage patties (that mostly tasted like dog food).  Read on for more sordid details about this test (and yes, you're reading it right, only 5 of the 9 products received any rating at all):

PRICE COMPARISON FOR 60Z OF YOGURT (store first, then brand):
$2.99 Whole Foods Skyr.is
$1.67 Whole Foods Siggi's Icelandic style non-fat skyr
$1.34 Albertsons Dannon Light & Fit
$0.99 Whole Foods Cascade Fresh Fat Free
$0.89 Whole Foods 365 Fat Free Yogurt
$0.79 QFC Tillamook Light Fat Free
$0.79 Trader Joe's French Village Nonfat
$0.75 Albertsons Yoplait Light Fat Free
$0.65 QFC brand Lite Yogurt

TASTE PROFILES:

365 Fat Free Yogurt: This product is light in color and is relatively chunky.  It doesn't mix very well. It has an intense berry flavor at the beginning but dissolves into chemicals in my mouth.

Cascade Fresh: This yogurt has a good thickness but a horrid taste; they don't even try to make it taste like strawberries, it just flat out tastes like chemicals.
Dannon Light and Fit: This product is bright pink in color with a thinner consistency than the others.  It tastes mildly like bubble gum flavored floride, complete with the chalky aftertaste.

QFC brand Lite:  This has a good creaminess but tastes like what I imagine would be licking aspartame with your tongue from a fake sugar packet. Yuck!

Siggi's: This is a super thick yogurt but not creamy, more chalky.  When it first hit my tongue it tasted like marinara sauce.  I'm not joking....chalky, cold, marinara sauce.  Yummmmm.

skyr.is: This product is so thick it's pasty. It has a chalky bland flavor that makes me want to hurl frankly. Just too chalky.

Tillamook: This yogurt is light in color but tastes like bubble gum floride again, with a more intense taste than Dannon Light and Fit.

Trader Joe's French Village: This is very light in color and super creamy, but has no berry taste. It is more milky than berry flavored.

Yoplait Light: This product is bright pink in color with a creamy texture, fake berry taste, and not much aftertaste. It has a fake but fun taste - kids would love this one.
